With a
recording session coming up, Mel wanted to write a song that would be a universal hit. He invisioned a stop sign, a sign that is viewed by the public around the world. From there he related a stop sign to a woman stopping her
lover's advances. After he blended the words and the tune in his head, he got together with Bob O'Connell who
worked out the chord changes, then Jerry Sechleer completed the band's arrangement. The rest is history!
"Stop Sign"
went on to be a huge hit for Mel Wynn and the Rhythm Aces, selling worldwide in the late 60's. The song was recently picked
up by Abs Breen in 2003, a singing sensation from the U. K. who rerecorded the tune, creating a video, album and
single CD of "Stop Sign". "Stop Sign" again became very sucessful around the world, selling in countries
such as Australia, Britain, Canada, Chili, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Mexico, Japan and many others. This also
created a market for the original tune recorded by Mel Wynn and the Rhythm Aces. A 45 rpm single of the
original "Stop Sign" by Mel Wynn and the Rhythm Aces" recently sold on Ebay, as of October 2006, to the
highest bidder for $84.00.
